How long have you been a Crossfitter?

I started Crossfit right around Labor Day 2012.

What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?

I like the sense of community. I’ve met neighbors that I wouldn’t have necessarily met otherwise. Everyone is there for a common goal and there is a mutual encouragement to get better. The staff is incredible, and gives good feedback and coaching while you’re working out to make sure you’re doing it safely and not cheating yourself

Why do you CrossFit?

Initially, it was to lose weight. I’ve always either been up or down in my weight. When I started, I was packing on 220 pounds onto a 5’8″ frame. Now, it has become more of a lifestyle. I go to not only get stronger, but to also challenge myself. Crossfit is a great stress reliever.

How has CrossFit impacted your life?

It is an incredible stress reliever. Taking stress out on a WOD is a great thing. I think I’m also a better role model for my kids. My son loves burpees and wants to be healthy and strong.

What’s your favorite lift/workout?

Power cleans.

What’s your least favorite lift/workout?

Double Unders, without question.

What advice would you give to the new Crossfitter?

Get to know people in the gym. Try to “pair up” with someone for friendly competition. Stick with it. Some days are better than others. Take photos of yourself early on for motivation later.
