How long have you been a Crossfitter?
7 months…seems like longer, though.
Why do you Crossfit?
In addition to the fact that I was grossly out of shape, I started CrossFit to appease my brother . He started last October and had been dropping hints like “You should try it, I think you’d really enjoy it” every time we spoke. As I have become more competent in the WODs I find myself looking forward to challenging myself to do things that were nearly impossible 6 months ago.
What’s your favorite thing about Crossfit?
Along with the challenges presented every day, I would have to say the camaraderie. By nature, I think that all CrossFitters have a competitive streak. The difference between many/most competitive people and CrossFitters seems to be that they want to see themselves succeed, but also want to see the people around them succeed.
How has Crossfit impacted your life?
Obviously, the health benefits rank first, but I have had the chance to meet some great, interesting people. Outside the “box” I have also found myself looking at challenges differently, so the fitness-related mindset has crept into the rest of my life.
What’s your favorite lift/workout?
Tire flips
What’s your least favorite lift/workout?
Burpees. Anyone who doesn’t list them as their least favorite is lying.
What advice would you give to the new Crossfitter?
1. Listen to the coaches…they know what they are talking about, and many have been in the same position you are now in.
2. Check your ego at the door. If you can’t handle being humbled once in a while, it probably isn’t a good fit for you.
3. Celebrate the PRs, but always look for things that can be improved upon.
Tell us something not Crossfit-related that we don’t know about you
Way back when, I was a competitive Mathlete. Connecticut All State Math Team 1994.
